Research

The research research is two-fold. On the one hand making the connection between laboratory and clinic (translational research). This concerns research by surgery-onset conditions in the body that stimulate tumor growth or the formation of metastases. For example due to lack of oxygen in tissues by temporally clamping blood vessels during surgery, which we have shown this stimulates outgrowth of liver metastases from colon cancer. In addition the research focusses on mechanisms of metastasis of primary tumors to the liver. Part of this is also the cancer stem cell research in the light of the formation of metastases. Finally, previous research concerning all kinds of measurable factors that we could use to determine the prognosis in patients with (familial) endocrine tumors, such as thyroid cancer and certain forms of pancreatic cancer. As the second clinical research program, consisting of innovative approaches within the endocrine surgery and liver surgery. These include minimally invasive approach to thyroid and parathyroid gland. In addition, clinical research takes place in collaboration with the Department of Radiology and Epidemiology regarding early detection and imaging (led) surgery in breast cancer.
